We arrived at the reception at 6:10pm which was not good since pictures were suppose to start for the wedding party at 6pm.  I also needed to get back into my dress and freshen up for the night, and with no time to spare there was lots to do.  We ended up not starting pictures until 6:50pm with our guests arriving at 7pm. Needless to say we were just late to greet our guests so we could finish up pictures.  If I could change one thing about the whole day, it would have been this.   It all worked out in the end, and we got great pictures, it was just more rushed then I would have liked.

After pictures it was off to greet our guests and get the party started!  I loved seeing all our friends, meeting new ones, and hanging out.  The decorations, food, and whole event were so much more then I could have ever dreamed of!

The cupcakes.

It was SO funny at the moment.  Since this is like me journal, I’m sure that’s more for me.

The Goblet!

This wedding goblet was given to us by Charlotte’s husband, Mark Hamilton who hand carved it just for us!  Mark can do amazing skilled work with his hands.

So a little history of why this is so special.   The goblet was made from the walnut used by the early Mormon pioneers in building the Masonic Hall in Nauvoo, IL.  The Mosonic Hall was a three-story cultural and masonic hall and was built in the early 1840s under the direction of Lucius Scovil and became the community cultural center of Nauvoo. It was dedicated by Hyrum Smith on April 5, 1844 with several hundred present.  The Hall was the tallest building in Nauvoo for some time and could be seen for miles around.  It served as the principal meeting location for the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge, although it was used for many additional purposes, including theatrical productions, funerals, and church meetings; it also served as a police office and the headquarters of the Nauvoo Legion. In all, the hall had at least 26 different uses while the Saints were in Nauvoo.

The Walnut was removed from the Masonic Hall when it was restored in the 1970’s by Otis Hamilton (Mark’s father).  The two imperfections on the bottom of the goblet cup are left by the square nails used by the Pioneers in 1855 during its construction.  The rings were cut from the same piece that was part of the tree that grew in Nauvoo at least 250 years ago.

Tradition says: “When the bride and groom toast each other from the same Goblet on their wedding day, the unbroken rings symbolizing strength, unity, and eternity invoke a powerful bond for the happy couple’s future together.”  We feel so loved and lucky to have been able to receive this gift from him.  There is so much of the church’s history that comes from Nauvoo, they over came and endured so much, which is a great reminder going into a marriage.   The wood that he used has so much history and meaning, and was gathered by his dad, and their are just a few pieces that remain.  Mark and Charlotte, thanks for your love and for the gift you gave us on our special day!
