Measure Yourself!
Quote of the Day: “If all you do is measure yourself, you’ll start making changes automatically.”
I know that New Year’s was well over a month ago, but I was kind of hoping that it wasn’t too late for me to follow through on a little tradition I have.
Every year for as long as I can remember (at least in my adult life) at the beginning of each year I sit down and recap the previous year. This list usually consists of things I’ve accomplished, places I visited, favorite songs, most inspirational people (in my life and what I’ve learned from them), favorite things to eat, world news, styles, movies, etc.
I do this mainly so that if I am ever lucky enough to be a mom and have kids, that they will one day be able to look back and know my likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams, goals, ambitions, and world news during specific times in my life. However, I also do this for myself. It allows me to measure myself. To see how far I have come. This little tradition can not only be inspirational but it can also be hilarious!
To give you an idea of what I mean by hilarious, I’ve listed below two goals I set last year and actually REALLY wanted to accomplish. Who was I kidding! I mean seriously, both of these are hilarious and will NEVER be accomplished!
Goals:
#1: Enroll in Biology Online! (Side note: I enrolled in Biology 5 times in college and didn’t pass, why would I think the online version would work for me? KA and Sheena will appreciate this!)
#2: Start using coupons! Hahahaha… really all I can do is laugh at this! If you know me then you know why this is hilarious! I admire those that can cut and use coupons! (Really!)
Now here are some goals I DID accomplish:
#1: Buy a Computer. This I did! Hooray! Around June of last year I purchased the new MacBook Pro. Yes, I am 27 and have never had to purchase my own computer (laptop). All my past computers have always been owned by my employers which I used for both work and personal. 🙂 Funny thing is now that I have my own computer my current company is having me use it for work! Go Figure!
#2: Keep living in New York. This one I did until November 22, 2008. Total time spent in New York = 18 months.
#3: Loose weight (classic, right)… however I did it! From August – December I lost 19.6 pounds which was a fat loss of 5.8%. As of today I have lost 26.4 pounds which is a fat loss of 8.5%.
#4: Learn how to cook. I love that I accomplished this goal. I love cooking at home and would prefer it over going out (most of the time….).
My most commonly used phrase of 2008: “Nope, I am still not married.”
After my review of last year, I have set some new goals. Some of them are fun and others are serious. I am excited for this year and all the things that are in-store. Check back around this time next year for another year-end review. That’s when you’ll find out the goals I set for this year and all the things I do and DON’T accomplish. Happy New Year… or should I say Happy Valentines Day?!
